The Unpoised Equality

PV Sindhu wins a silver at olympics , Priyanka Chopra rules across the globe with Quantico, we have many biopics being made on our female achievers. Well these are just a few of those that are highlighted unlike the many. "FEMINSM" is quite a debatable word these days, I see so many women speaking on it and I am glad they do. However there are certain educated people I know who think that "FEMINISM" is an overrated term. They aren't wrong from their perspective because in a world they've  lived women have been brought up with the same grace as men and by their world I mean the metro's.

I'm a blend of a small town and a metro, born and brought in a small town like Shimla and then moving to cities like Mumbai & Delhi to chase my dreams. I'm glad I had that encouragement to do that unlike many who don't get enough oppurtunities. This "blend" becomes damn confusing at times where I struggle to be a bridge between the mentality of the place I've been brought up in and the place where I'm living (metro).

Women in small town still struggle to find a place for themselves professionally, and I know we have won over the issues like female feticide , child marriage and dowry. I'm looking beyond that and I think we need to fight for our professional space as well.
We want to educate our daughters but we also want them to be good at the household stuff. I mean there isn't a problem at being good at the household thing, there are so many house wives who do that , and I'm very sure I will never be able to do it like them.

What I simply mean is out of all the 10 things a women is, career is probably the 9th thing down the line or may be not even that. What tops the list are the qualities like beauty, being domesticated etc etc.
Men and women are physiologically different and we women are not fighting for that. We  are fighting for equity which simply means if it's ok for a man to earn 2 lakhs per month and not know cooking , there shouldn't be a problem with a women not knowing how to cook. Even if a women reaches home at 8 p.m after her office, she is still expected to be a part of the daily home routine unlike the men.

People want women to be in a teaching profession not for a fact that teacher is a mind shaper and they have so much to offer to the society, but simply because it's a 8a.m.to 4p.m.job and this is the how she'll be able to tackle both her house and office.

I really think that  we really need to go beyond a women being able to manage the house, trust me she has so much more to offer.  Let her fly and she'll make you fly along, be her strength today and she'll support you endlessly. We need to fight a mentality not human beings. It's high time we really empower our women in every way especially in our mentalities .

The unstable mind

Were you born in the 90's ? Do you think that has been an era of transformation between the underdevelopment and the still developing?

Most of my youngsters born in the 90's could definitely relate to how we are the only generation to be struck between the two generations.

1. "Hume itni suvidhae mili hoti to kha hote": We come up from a generation where our parents couldn't fulfill their dreams at their time, so they expected us to fulfill them , We on the contrary come from a generation where movies like 3 idiots were released and we won't be a generation expecting our kids to fulfill our dreams :-p.

2. "Jesa Des Wesa Bhes": We come from a generation where women have to match up with three avatars from wearing a suit in the rural to a casual wear in towns to being modern in cities, it'll be intolerable to mix up the three and I guess the previous generation was obsessed with the rural and the upcoming being the modern one, thus we are the only generation being a bridge between the two generation.

3. "Tumne Arts ya commerce liya to tum kisi layak nhi": We come up from a generation where we were brought up with the goals of either becoming a doctor or an engineer anything except that wouldn't mean you are capable enough. P.S- Most of my generation did engineering to prove that they could take up engineering , interest? They don't know..

Just because I'm a woman

This Saturday I had planned a day out with my friends to Akshardham, in Delhi. As I was the only one to revisit the place I was dam excited about the day out. It was nearly 2 pm when we reached Akshardham, it was over crowed may be due to the Eid festival. Looking at the crowd around we decided to quit and leave the place but some of my friends were completely against leaving so finally we decided to stay ,look around and enjoy all the four shows that are organised for the mob.

I didn't call up home because I thought it wouldn't take more than five hours at the place and I would reach my PG at most by 5pm but that didn't happen we were struck there till 10:30 pm because of the crowd. We didn't have our phones along as they are not allowed in Akshardham. I enjoyed it till the water show when it was nearly 7 pm but after that I was concentrating more on time than on the movie and the exhibition, it wasn't because it was boring but because I was worried whether I'll be able to reach back safely. I was tensed about my parents being worried for me as they had no idea as to where I was . I was worried as my ringing phone in the clock room would make them even more tensed as to why I'm not picking up .

After 8 pm I was just waiting for the show to end and I remember at 10:30 how me and my friends rushed towards the metro station. My male friends around were calming me down and telling me there is nothing to worry about . One of my friends just handed my phone and what I saw was 140 missed calls and I had a clear idea about what must be going on back at home .I didn't give them a call back because for me  it was more important to reach my PG . One of my friend accompanied me to my place just to drop me ,I guess he made out that I was worried about reaching back safely and of course of all the scoldings that I was going to get.

It was nealy 11:30 when I reached my PG where my roommate asked me "madam kha thi tum sb pareshan hai". I was scared to call up home I knew they wouldn't get the situation but I had to .My dad didn't scold me but he was angry same was the case with my sister. My parents had called everyone they could call in Delhi in order to know where I was. I was sad because I had made everyone worried and what most of the girls end up with is blaming themselves.

It was a class day out but I don't remember any of male friends being worried about time or about landing up home safely. It is us the girls who always have to worry but why where are we responsible for it? I'm just a month old in Delhi I don't know much about the place but all I know is its not safe for girls from the news channels . I was worried that day and may be I'll always be worried in case I'm late in future. My parents have not been to Delhi more than thrice but one thing they know for sure is that its not safe for me to roam around after 7 pm.

In 21st century where we strongly believe that girls can achieve anything there are certain things which are not under their control no matter how confident they are . I'm not a party animal who will land up at 1 or 2 am daily but what about situations that are not in our control. Just because some insane males walk around freely in the streets means i should stop living . I should be on time because those people will not be kept an eye on  no matter what the situation is. All I know is that I have to land up safe so that I don't face such people. 21st century , we are developing in every aspect, Bullet trains but our Indian women cannot travel after 9pm why ?because its not safe.

AND yes It's my fault to have landed up late that night just because its not safe and just because I am women.
